In 1905 the United States hosted a peace conference in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that resulted in a peace treaty which ended the war between Russia and Japan. The treaty led to a Nobel Peace Prize for President Teddy Roosevelt.
This documentary focuses on a variety of spiritual/religious efforts on behalf of peace. Some negotiators kept journals including their spiritual thoughts, attended church services and other meetings during the conference, and a special Thanksgiving service after the treaty was signed. Others worked prayerfully on behalf of a successful outcome of the conference, or to alleviate the suffering caused by the war.
Included are activities from the 2005 100th anniversary celebration which took on a life of its own.
Finally, the documentary suggests what this means to us today.
